Let Me Be A Woman

Understanding never came for why life was so broken
Why loneliness enveloped in the dark
My heart sought a hope that had not been found in man
Yet could not be attained through works on my own part.
The past that I had strung along for so long
From whose bond I never seemed to be free
Fled in the presence of the one who created my heart
And was humiliated by the love the Lord had for me.
Even in the darkest night you sought me
You said “My child, you are mine and belong to no other.”
My tattered rags transformed into robes of royalty
For I belong to you, the King, and my Father.
My prayers changed from cries of longing
As my name was carved onto the hand of Christ
No longer will death overtake or encompass me with fear
For my longing is to please the Creator of my life.
Refine me like gold in a fire, Abba
Make me a woman after your own heart
Keep me in my trials as long as it takes
For you to complete the work that you start.
Fill me with joy and grow me in contentedness
Reveal your face to me, humble me, break me
Remind me of your faithfulness and lead me to repentance
From my foolishness, come in, and fully overtake me.
Give me the cup that contains your discipline
To transform me into a woman that Solomon would admire
Give me the strength to die to myself each day
Gently amend me and make my heart reflect Your desires.
For Father you have upheld me, sustained me, and loved me
You see your Son, who reigns in the heart you made new
Break my idols of acceptance and comfort
And tune my heart to sing of my love for only you.
Teach me to love the times that I am called to hurt
For happiness does not determine spiritual success
Joy is everlasting and imparted to me
For You adore me in my complete brokenness.
My greatest worship for your name is but filth
Yet you adore my childish praise of the bondage I am free of
Give me strength to pursue you for all of my days
For My life is not mine, it belongs to only you, my Love.
